We Need Your Help!
On April 1st, the Ohio House of Representatives unveiled its proposed state budget, which seeks to eliminate the Public Library Fund—a fund protected by law and responsible for the majority of Ohio’s public library funding.
Speak Up! Contact your State Representatives and tell them:
- Your library story
- No cuts to library funding
- Restore the Public Library Fund to 1.75%
WHY THIS MATTERS:
- The proposed budget eliminates the Public Library Fund, which has funded 251 public library systems for over four decades.
- Instead, lawmakers plan to allocate a lump dollar amount—resulting in funding cuts for libraries across the state.
- In Avon Lake, this fund covers 25% of ALPL’s operations, while the local tax levy contributes 69%, and the remaining 6% comes from grants and donations.
