ALPL Community Read & Author Visit Featuring Mudbound Author Hillary Jordan

READ. THINK. SHARE. ENGAGE.

Avon Lake Public Library, in partnership with Avon Lake City Schools, is honored to present a month-long special programming event inspired by the internationally bestselling and award-winning book Mudbound by American novelist Hillary Jordan. Programs will be held at the Library between Tuesday, September 3, and Sunday, October 6. The highlight will be on Thursday, October 3, with two opportunities to hear Jordan speak, followed by book signing. As a part of this event, the Library is giving away 300 books beginning Monday, August 19 (while supplies last) to encourage reading, thinking, sharing, and engagement.

More than a dozen programs related to Mudbound’s setting, themes, and characters will include music, genealogy, book and clothing displays, an art show featuring works by Avon Lake High School students, and an exhibit of historical photos, many of which are on loan from the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA, and the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, OH. We also invite the public to participate in our large “Honor Wall” collage by bringing in a picture or copy of a picture, of any loved one who served in World War II. This “interactive” exhibit is a way of paying tribute to those veterans, local and beyond, who honorably served their country and are a part of “The Greatest Generation”.
